Srinagar, Aug 06 (KNO): The Government of India (GoI) on Thursday informed the Lok Sabha that 4,548 Scheduled Tribe (ST) students in Jammu & Kashmir received Post-Matric Scholarships, while 1,322 students benefited under the Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme during 2025-26, through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) Tribal Portal.
Replying to a question raised by PP Chaudhary, Dr K. Sudhakar, Jugal Kishore, Mahima Kumari Mewar, Himadri Singh, Nalin Soren and Manish Jaiswal, Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Durgadas Uikey said the Ministry is leveraging the DBT Tribal Portal to monitor implementation of Pre-Matric and Post-Matric Scholarship Schemes for Scheduled Tribe students, generate MIS reports and facilitate online submission of utilisation certificates, expenditure statements and other documents by States and Union Territories, thereby reducing processing time and grievances.
The minister, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), informed the House that in Jammu & Kashmir, the number of Pre-Matric Scholarship beneficiaries stood at 4,665 in 2023-24, 365 in 2024-25 and 1,322 in 2025-26. Under the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme, the UT recorded 10,399 beneficiaries in 2023-24, 6,591 in 2024-25 and 4,548 in 2025-26.
For Ladakh, the Centre said 2,459 students benefited under the Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme in 2025-26, compared to 250 in 2024-25 and 82 in 2023-24. Under the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme, 139 students received scholarships in 2025-26, against 10,017 in 2024-25 and 2,196 in 2023-24.
Uikey further said the Ministry has introduced end-to-end digitisation, common data standards, online processing, real-time monitoring and the SNA-SPARSH framework to ensure transparent, just-in-time release of scholarship funds directly into beneficiaries' bank accounts through DBT, eliminating delays and reducing the scope for duplication and intermediaries—(KNO)
